WordPress Themes for Hotels: Choose the Booking Engine First
By Mark Fail · · Updated

A hotel site has one job that a café or a law firm site never has. It has to sell a specific room for specific nights at a price that changes with the season, take money for it, and then stop anyone else buying the same nights on Booking.com an hour later. The theme is the part guests see. The booking engine underneath decides whether any of that works.
So I sorted this list by engine rather than by looks. On 7 October 2026 I opened the demo of each option below, read its sales page and changelog notes, and pulled the plugin figures from the WordPress.org API. Five are themes and one is a booking plugin you can put under almost any theme.
At a glance
| Option | Price | Booking engine | Airbnb and Booking.com | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bellevue | $60 | MotoPress Hotel Booking, bundled | iCal | B&Bs and holiday lets |
| CozyStay | $69 | Its own, runs on WooCommerce | Two-way iCal | Boutique hotels and resorts |
| Hotel Master | $79 | Its own | iCal | Hostels and apartments |
| Sailing | $39 | WP Hotel Booking | Not listed | Small hotels on a tight budget |
| Albatross | Free | MotoPress Hotel Booking Lite | Paid upgrade | Testing before you spend |
| VikBooking | Free, Pro €149 a year | Plugin, works with most themes | API channel manager | Hotels selling on several sites |
Engine first
Most free hotel themes on WordPress.org have no booking system of their own. A search for "hotel" there returns 280 themes, plenty of them for restaurants or travel agents, and 209 of the 280 have 100 or fewer active installs. They are brochure designs that expect you to bring a booking plugin.
Hotel Galaxy shows why that matters. It is the best rated of them, 4.8 from 67 reviews, and its description still says it works with the Advanced Booking Calendar plugin. WordPress.org closed that plugin on 1 December 2022 for a security issue.
Three questions sort the real options quickly. Can a guest pick dates and pay a deposit on your site? Can you charge more in August than in November without editing every room by hand? And when a room sells on Booking.com or Airbnb, how long until your own site stops offering it?
The last one catches people out.
Most WordPress hotel themes sync with the big platforms through iCal, which is a calendar feed each side reads on a timer. Airbnb's help page says its calendar updates every 3 hours from the calendars you connect. Two guests can book the same room in that gap. A channel manager connects through each platform's own API instead, so availability and prices move almost straight away, but it is a monthly service and only one option here, VikBooking, plugs into one natively.
A single cottage or a four-room B&B can live with iCal. A 20-room hotel that gets half its guests from Booking.com probably can't.
Bellevue

Bellevue from Themovation tops the hotel-specific themes in ThemeForest's "hotel booking" search by sales, and it has been on sale for 11 years. The reason it keeps selling is the bundle. It ships with the paid version of MotoPress Hotel Booking and 11 MotoPress add-ons, among them WooCommerce Payments, PDF invoices, payment requests for balances, multi-currency and guest reviews. MotoPress sells that plugin separately for people who don't buy a bundled theme. The hotel demo puts a date and guest search straight under the hero, with tiles for rooms, dining, spa and events below it.
Of the 16 demos, 13 are vacation rentals and only 3 are hotels, which tells you who buys it. You also need Themovation's Aloha PowerPack plugin, and the recent buyer comments are rough. Several mention support tickets left unanswered for a week or more, and one says PowerPack refused to run because the theme was older than it required. Bellevue costs $60, or $1,480 for the Extended licence, with 14,976 sales and a 4.79 rating from 364 reviews. It was last updated on 30 September 2026.
Pros
- Full MotoPress Hotel Booking plus 11 paid add-ons in the price
- Deposits, balance requests and PDF invoices already handled
- iCal sync with Airbnb, Booking.com and TripAdvisor
- Elementor templates for every page type
Cons
- Recent comments complain about slow support replies
- Depends on the Aloha PowerPack plugin staying in step with the theme
- Most demos are holiday lets, not hotels
- iCal only, no channel manager connection
CozyStay

CozyStay looks the most like a real boutique hotel site of anything here. The mountain hotel demo has a phone and email bar at the top, a language switcher, and menus split into Stay, Dine, Play and Relax, which is how resorts actually organise their pages. LoftOcean wrote its own booking engine for it. You set prices per guest, weekend and seasonal rates, long-stay discounts and minimum stays, and its iCal sync runs both ways with Airbnb, Booking.com and Google Calendar.
The engine sits on WooCommerce and the CozyStay Core plugin, so both have to be installed even if you never sell anything else. Buyers have asked about deposits more than once, and the author's answer is that the theme doesn't take part payments and you'd need a third-party plugin. If you already use another booking engine, the Book Now buttons can point to it. CozyStay costs $69 and has 4,116 sales with a 4.74 rating from 65 reviews. It was last updated on 21 August 2026.
Pros
- Five hotel demos built on the free Elementor
- Per-guest pricing, seasonal rates and long-stay discounts
- Two-way iCal sync with Airbnb and Booking.com
- Book Now buttons can hand off to an outside booking engine
Cons
- No deposits or part payments without another plugin
- Needs WooCommerce running just to take bookings
- No guest reviews on room pages
- Extended licence is $3,450
Hotel Master

GoodLayers built Hotel Master with its own reservation system, so there is no third-party plugin to renew. It handles seasonal prices, coupons and discounts for consecutive nights, and there is a Hostel demo next to Classic, Modern, Dark and MyApartment. That makes it one of the few on this list that can sell beds in a dorm as easily as a double room.
It shows its age. The classic demo still has a Google+ icon in the top bar, and the layouts use GoodLayers' own page builder rather than Elementor or the block editor.
The buyer comments are more useful than the sales page. A few hosts reported iCal polling slowing their server down, and others had Stripe or PayPal checkouts that kept spinning until support sent them a patched file. On the plus side, replies tend to come within a business day. Hotel Master costs $79 and has 7,190 sales with a 4.44 rating from 336 reviews, last updated on 12 August 2026.
Pros
- Booking engine built into the theme, nothing extra to buy
- Hostel demo for per-bed selling
- Coupons, seasonal prices and multi-night discounts
- iCal sync with Airbnb and VRBO
Cons
- Dated design and a proprietary page builder
- Reports of iCal sync loading the server
- Some checkout fixes arrive as manual file uploads
- Hard to change some built-in wording, even with translation plugins
Sailing

At $39, Sailing is the cheapest paid theme here. ThimPress makes it as a front end for its own free WP Hotel Booking plugin, which handles rooms, a booking cart for several rooms at once, coupons, blocked dates and four payment methods: offline, Authorize.net, PayPal and Stripe. The Mediterranean demo opens on a rooms page with a five-field search and a price filter, and it found 17 rooms.
Look hard at the plugin before you buy the theme. WP Hotel Booking has 7,000+ active installs but a 3.7 average, and 21 of its 67 ratings are one star, mostly about bugs and support. The newest of those is almost two years old, so things may have improved, yet neither the plugin page nor the Sailing item page mentions syncing with Airbnb or Booking.com. Sailing has 4,155 sales and a 4.52 rating from 269 reviews and was last updated on 23 September 2026.
Pros
- Lowest price of the paid themes
- Free booking plugin from the same company
- Guests can book several rooms in one cart
- Eight homepage demos
Cons
- No iCal or channel manager sync mentioned anywhere
- WP Hotel Booking has a long tail of one-star reviews
- Bundled page builder is SiteOrigin, not Elementor
Albatross

Albatross is MotoPress's free Elementor theme, published on WordPress.org, and it is the cheapest way to see what a real booking flow feels like. It pairs with the free MotoPress Hotel Booking Lite. That plugin already gives you room types with galleries and amenities, an availability search, seasonal rates, minimum stays, coupons, and full or deposit payments through PayPal, bank transfer or pay on arrival.
What Lite leaves out is the part a busy hotel needs. iCal sync with Booking.com and Airbnb, Stripe, adding bookings from the dashboard and changing a booking's dates are all in the paid version.
The plugin has 10,000+ active installs and a 3.7 average from 65 ratings. Read the one-star reviews and most are about the paid version's no-refund policy and support, not the free plugin's code. The theme itself has 1,000+ active installs, a 4.4 average from 5 ratings, and was last updated on 12 May 2025, so it is getting close to the age where I'd want to see an update.
Pros
- Free theme and free booking plugin
- Deposits and seasonal rates work in the free plugin
- Upgrading the plugin later keeps all your rooms and bookings
Cons
- No OTA sync and no Stripe until you buy the Pro plugin
- Theme last updated in May 2025
- Plugin reviewers complain about the paid version's refund policy
VikBooking

VikBooking is a plugin, and it is on this list because it answers the channel manager question better than any theme. The Pro version connects to Vik Channel Manager, which talks to Booking.com, Airbnb, Expedia and Google Hotel through their APIs rather than iCal. Its own plugin page warns against "fake" channel managers that only sync iCal. The demo shows the trick hotels use to win direct bookings, a popup comparing your direct rate of €20 against €35 on the three big platforms.
The free version takes bookings, but seasonal rates, minimum-stay rules, most payment gateways and extra services all need Pro at €149 a year. The channel manager is a separate e4jConnect subscription on top, with a 30-day free trial. It also looks plain, so pair it with a decent general theme. VikBooking has 8,000+ active installs and a 4.8 average from 61 ratings, 55 of them five stars, and was last updated on 1 October 2026.
Pros
- Real API connections to Booking.com, Airbnb and Expedia
- Highest rated booking plugin I checked
- Front-desk features like check-in reports and room switching in Pro
- Works with any theme you already like
Cons
- Seasonal pricing is a Pro feature
- Channel manager is a separate subscription
- Default booking pages look dated without styling work
Final thoughts
For a B&B, guest house or a few holiday cottages, Bellevue is still the safest buy, mainly because $60 gets you the paid MotoPress plugin and its add-ons with nothing else to license. Go in knowing support can be slow.
A boutique hotel that cares how the site looks should start with CozyStay and plan for a deposit plugin. Hostels are the one case where Hotel Master's age matters less than its per-bed demo.
If most of your guests arrive through Booking.com or Expedia, and you have more than a handful of rooms, the theme matters less than the sync. That points to VikBooking Pro with the channel manager, or to a hosted booking engine like Beds24 or Sirvoy embedded with their WordPress plugins. Both of those plugins show up on WordPress.org, though Beds24's hasn't been updated since May 2025.
To test the whole idea for free, install Albatross with MotoPress Hotel Booking Lite on a staging site, add your rooms and take a few test bookings. If it suits you, upgrading the plugin keeps everything.
One disclosure. PremiumPress, which publishes this blog, is building a WordPress hotel theme with its own booking system. It is not on sale yet and is expected late in 2026, so it isn't compared here.
