Check the adult-content policy first

There is one thing to do before signing up with any host, DreamHost included. Check the current acceptable-use policy on adult content yourself before you commit a dating, escort or classifieds site to it. These policies can and do change.

This is true of most mainstream hosts, not only DreamHost. A policy described in a review may no longer be accurate by the time you sign up, which is why PremiumPress recommends checking the current terms directly.

Pros

  • Good value for money

Our review, in detail

Who is DreamHost?

DreamHost is one of the older independent hosts still standing. It was founded in 1997 and is still employee-owned, with no private equity or public shareholders behind it. It currently hosts over 1.5 million websites.

That independence is part of its pitch. Unlike several other hosts on this list, its product decisions are not driven by a parent company's shareholders.

Hosting lineup and infrastructure

The range runs from small sites to large ones:

  • Shared hosting. The entry-level plan supports up to 25 sites.
  • DreamPress. Managed WordPress hosting with built-in staging and automated backups.
  • Managed VPS and dedicated servers. For larger sites with more traffic.

Every tier runs on NVMe SSD storage, which is faster than the SATA SSDs many budget hosts still use.

DreamHost runs its own data centers on the East and West coasts of the US, in Amsterdam and in Singapore. A global CDN with over 100 edge locations helps pages load faster for visitors in other countries.

Daily automated backups are included as standard, along with free migrations for WordPress sites coming from another host.

Control panel, staging and support

DreamHost uses its own control panel in place of cPanel. There is a learning curve if you are coming from a cPanel host, but it is generally regarded as clean and simple once you are used to it. One-click WordPress installs are built in.

The managed DreamPress tier adds a staging site. You can test a change on a copy of your site, such as installing or updating a PremiumPress theme, before you push it live. That lowers the risk of a broken update on your real site.

Staging alone puts DreamPress ahead of most budget shared hosts. With those, testing an update safely usually means setting up a local development site yourself.

Support is available around the clock by live chat and ticket. DreamHost also publishes its uptime status page openly, which is a small but real sign of transparency.

Guarantees and reputation

DreamHost offers an unusually strong guarantee: 100% uptime, with account credit if it misses. That comes on top of the usual 30-day money-back window.

It holds a 4.7/5 rating on Trustpilot from real customer reviews. It has also picked up several "Best WordPress Hosting" awards from independent review sites in 2025 and 2026.

Its newer plans have started to include Bunny CDN, a content delivery network focused on performance, alongside AI tools for site building, log analysis and business advice.
